Caring For Your Hat

Protect Your Investment

A well-made hat deserves thoughtful care. With a few simple habits, you can help preserve the shape, finish, and character of your felt and straw hats for years to come.

Caring for Felt Hats

Daily Care
Gently brush your felt hat on a regular basis using a soft-bristled brush, preferably horsehair. Work in a counter-clockwise direction to lift away dust and surface debris while protecting the finish of the felt.

Spot Cleaning
For minor stains or marks, use a clean, slightly damp cloth or a specialized hat sponge and gently blot the affected area. Avoid harsh rubbing, as this can alter or damage the texture of the felt.

Shaping & Steam
If your felt hat begins to lose its shape or develops wrinkles, carefully expose it to steam from a boiling kettle while keeping the hat a safe distance from the heat source. Once the felt has softened slightly, gently reshape the crown or brim with your hands. Use caution to avoid burns and excessive moisture.

Proper Storage
Store your felt hat in a cool, dry environment. Ideally, place it on a hat form or store it upside down on its crown inside a hat box. This helps protect the brim from distortion while keeping dust from settling on the hat.

Caring for Straw Hats

Dust Removal
Regularly wipe your straw hat with a clean, dry microfiber cloth or use a soft brush to remove dust and debris that may settle between the woven fibers.

Stain Removal
For stubborn spots, lightly dampen a clean cloth with a mixture of mild soap and cool water. Gently dab the stained area, then wipe it with another clean, damp cloth. Avoid soaking the straw, as excessive water can weaken or distort the material.

Moisture Protection
Straw hats are particularly sensitive to water and high humidity. If your hat becomes wet, gently blot away excess moisture with a dry towel and allow it to air dry naturally. Keep it away from direct sunlight, hair dryers, heaters, and other artificial heat sources.

Proper Storage
Store your straw hat flat or on a wide-support hat hook in a cool, well-ventilated area. Avoid stacking objects on top of the hat, as pressure can crush the crown, distort the brim, or cause the straw to crack.

With proper care, your hat can retain its shape, character, and distinctive style for many seasons to come.

Hat Care Supplies

Boar Bristle Hat Brush

A well-cared-for hat deserves the right tools. Our boar bristle hat brush is designed to gently lift away dust, lint, and surface debris while helping preserve the natural finish and character of your felt hats.

The firm yet gentle natural bristles make it ideal for regular hat maintenance without being overly harsh on the felt. Use it with light, even strokes to keep your hat looking clean, refined, and ready to wear.

Perfect for wool and felt hats, this is a simple addition to your hat-care routine that helps protect the look of a hat you plan to enjoy for years to come.

Keep your hat looking its best.
